Academic Background

At Edinburgh I studied Pure Mathematics but switched to more applied mathematics at the Mathematics of Planet Earth Centre for Doctoral Training. My Masters taught courses covered Probability, Statistics, Computational Mathematics, and Dynamical Systems. My Ph.D. focused on the application of dynamical systems theory to the study of tipping points in geophysical systems. You can find a pdf-format CV here.

Publications

Throughout my academic career I have been fortunate enough to present my research at several international conferences and workshops, and publish a number of papers in respected journals. I have also included my MA and Masters dissertation papers here.

Power spectrum scaling as a measure of critical slowing down and precursor to tipping points in dynamical systems

Tipping points and early warning signals with applications to geophysical data

Generalized early warning signals in multivariate and gridded data with an application to tropical cyclones

A novel scaling indicator of early warning signals helps anticipate tropical cyclones

Mesh Generation Using Numerical Solutions of an Optimal Transport Problem

Growth and its Applications in Graph Theory

Conference and seminar presentations

Throughout my MRes and Ph.D. I was fortunate enough to give talks and poster presentations at a number of conferences. As a participant in a Centre for Doctoral Training (MPE CDT) I also had the opportunity to share my research regularly with friends, colleagues and various academic staff involved with the CDT, besides the more formal MPE CDT annual Jamboree events.
